Biography: The Adult Entertainment Industry, responsible for over 5,000 films and over $12 billion a year, came to a screeching halt on April 14th, 2004, when Darren James tested positive for HIV. The following day it was announced that actress Laura Roxx, an 18-year-old Canadian who has been in the adult business just a matter of months, who worked with James Darren, had also tested positive for HIV. As soon James Darren, a veteran porn star who has performed in over 250 films and the star of a very popular movie series called Mr. Beaver Checks In , was found to be HIV-positive, most of the major film companies agreed to stop movie production for at least two months; while all performers are tested and re-tested for the virus. It is believed that James Darren was infected while filming a non-condom shoot in Rio de Janeiro. When he underwent one of the mandatory medical checks the industry demands, it was discovered that he was infected with the virus. James Darren has had sex with 14 other performers since returning to the United States. All of the performers are being quarantined by the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation (AIM). Generally, according to Dr. Sharon Mitchell of AIM, porn stars are tested once a month for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases and are given a clean bill of health before being allowed to again perform. Still, condoms have not become an industry standard and not all performers get tested. In fact, only about 20% of porn actors use condoms during movie shoots. For obvious reasons, James Darren has now gone into hiding... The last recorded HIV infected actor was Tony Montana in 1999. |
